In an interesting observation made by Dan Zarrella of HubSpot, “Jesus” is the least connected word on Linkedin. Zarrella selected words in the title and summary of more than 40,000 randomly selected profiles to determine how they correlated with the number of connections those profiles had. Some of the other less talked about words include “makeup”, “plastic”, “songwriter”, “surgeon” and “childhood”. It is obvious that Linkedin is for more traditional set of jobs and industries. Word Jesus would probably appear in non-orthodox settings. On the other hand, “Recruiters” topped the list of most connected words on Linkedin with “networker” and “LION” taking the second and third [...]

There is nothing particularly wrong with Search feature on Linkedin. It delivers the expected results within milliseconds and has one of the best filtering features added to it. But, the management at Linkedin seems dissatisfied – or at least their latest move suggests so. The company has snapped up IndexTank, a startup that provides search technology to third party sites. Targeting users with relevant ads that are served based on actions in the social circle was first introduced by Facebook. Linkedin has now adopted this ad format in its site but with higher degree of privacy controls. The company has launched two ad formats – first one called a recruitment ad that makes it easier for a job seeker to land a job by showing them people in their own personal network who could refer them directly and the second called LinkedIn Ads that show how public actions of your network, including product recommendations and the number of followers of that [...]

Lots of people are “different” these days. But are they really thought leaders? In most cases, you can’t tell one coach, consultant or expert in a particular industry from another. A wise man once said, “Pictures speak a thousand words”, quite evident from the photos of the New York Stock Exchange on the day when Linkedin started trading. Linkedin announced its initial public offering of 7,840,000 shares of common stock at a price to the public of $45.00 per share. The initial trade has witnessed the stock(LNKD) doubling its value. It opened at $83 and was last seen trading at $90. Images: YFrog
