Today consumers are the most detrimental members of a company’s marketing department. They don’t spend hours analyzing and constructing best practices, they simply share and publish their raw emotion and opinion of products, services and more to billions of people. When companies utilize Facebook to join the conversation, they are amongst the 70 percent of small business owners. Currently, only 40 percent of businesses are utilizing Twitter, but this social media platform’s popularity is only predicted to increase. In fact, Twitter has been deemed the conversational search engine of our time. Shouldn’t businesses be the most interesting person in a [...]

Editor’s Note: Guest Post By Danielle Of Technected People store their lives on the internet. All social media platforms from Twitter to Tumblr are part of the aggressive movement of social media. With a mix of media players, clean layouts and online file storage, these programs make someone’s online presence extremely shareable. No one can deny the convenience of social sharing. Now, the engagement announcements, baby pictures and vacation albums can be put in one place for all a users friends to see—instead of having to contact everyone individually with good or bad news. However, one also can’t deny that [...]

President Barack Obama addresses the House Dem...

Editor’s Note: Guest Post By Dave Thomas With Election Day 2012 just over a year away, the candidates for the most powerful job in the world are and will continue using social media channels to state their case as to why they should be the next President of the United States. We all know how President Obama used social media to assist him in capturing 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue back in 2008. Obama used social media to his advantage in his 2008 campaign, as more than 2 million individuals became part of his network, which eventually generated some $70 million for [...]

Editor’s Note: Guest Post By Dave Thomas If the Casey Anthony’s, Amanda Knox’s and many other infamous individuals and stories had been happening back in the day, they would not have gained near the notoriety they did this year or in recent years due to social media. As we all know, social media was not around back in the mid-1990s when O.J. Simpson’s murder trial gripped the nation. While the trial was a fixture on television stations such as CNN and FoxNews, there were no tweets or shares because Twitter and Facebook, respectively were not born yet. Had they been [...]

A segment of a social network

Editor’s Note: Guest Post By Jared Scott What was the first social network? Ask your average Internet user what the first social network was and they are likely to tell you MySpace (launched in 2003).  And a few more may even tell you it was Friendster (launched in 2002). It certainly wasn’t Orkut (2004), Facebook (2004) or Google+ (2011). In recent years, it seems like no matter where you turn social networking is the in thing.  Nearly every company wants you to follow them on Facebook or Twitter. Would you believe that the original social network was launched in 1979? [...]

Facebook has become the powerhouse in social networking over the last 8 years. Fundamental to its continued success has been its simplicity, functionality and its development platform. At the F8 development conference (for Facebook developers), the company’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg introduced us to the most fundamental change since it began – the new Timeline and News Feed (click here for more info). For those of you who’ve yet to experience the new Facebook, this video outlines how to do it – it [...]

Is Social Media Making Us Outcasts?

by Guest on September 13, 2011

Outcast

On any given day, whether at work, in a restaurant, or in a movie theater, you’re likely to see dozens of people with their heads down texting, tweeting, and updating their Facebook status. We’re so enthralled with staying connected it’s just a matter of time before our devices are tethered to our hips. In light of our dependency on the social web, it should come as no surprise a subset of the population is rallying behind the idea that social media is a noxious demon threatening to destroy our ability to interact with one another. Leading the charge is MIT [...]

no spam!

For all of the Twitter users out there, have you noticed a decrease in followers lately? Personally, I have seen my follower count lowered and was wondering what had happened. I think I found my answer. This morning, I read an article detailing the author’s hypothesis that Twitter has been increasing its aggressiveness in fighting spam. The author said he spoke with Twitter’s Trust & Safety leader to see if he was correct, but didn’t get a solid ‘yes’ answer. However, he assumed from the response that Twitter was cracking down on spam. To help confirm his hunch, he did [...]

Editor’s Note: The Social Media Series is supported by BlueEyed Digital Marketing and the post is written by  Michael Thomas.   Over the last few years, Facebook has become the undisputed social media champion. Having dethroned the likes of MySpace and Bebo (amongst others), it has continued to create elements that make it a great avenue for businesses too. If you haven’t considered Facebook at all or if you’ve put your business on Facebook, but are experiencing limited ROI, consider the following before writing it off completely (be honest with yourself too); Is it clear to a perspective FAN what [...]
